Weekend around town

We talked about going away someplace for the weekend with my parents, but they have been everywhere already. So we stayed around town.

Friday night we had Japanese food and Gombei; even convincing Mom and Dad to try the sashimi (raw tuna).

Saturday we went to Liam's soccer game and then up to San Francisco to see an air show over the bay. The most impressive, as usual, was a stunt pilot named Sean Tucker. He makes an airplane do things that just look wholly unnatural. Next up were the Blue Angels, 450 mph loud fighter jets at 100ft above ground. Mom also volunteered to have her photo taken with a couple of Marines. Then to dinner in Chinatown.



Sunday the boys built a little enclosure for a sump pump we have in the back yard, ate bbq, and went for an evening stroll in downtown Palo Alto.

A bike for Rwanda

Tom Ritchey, one of the inventors of the mountain bike, has a new project to create a bike that is tailored to the needs of coffee farmers in Rwanda. I wonder if I will see him riding one of these in the hills above Palo Alto where he lives?

Granny and Grandpa

My parents have come to visit for the next week. Their flight was good if long. At least for the first few hours this morning the weather they left in Ireland was warmer than what welcomed them here! During the day the 3 boys went for a short bike ride to exercise Dad's knee; I think that it was the first time I had ever seen Dad ride a bike.
