The tiles are in

The bathroom tiles are finally in, we waited quite some time for them. It seemed that we're always waiting for something, hopefully this is it!! Comparing it to the design that inspired it, I don't see that much of a resemblence. Nevertheless, I still like it.

The grout colors are:
Shower Walls - Alabaster #333
Shower Floor - Bone #382
Bath Floor - Canvas #365

The tiles are:
Shower Walls - Crossville 7"x14" Cosican Cream UP VS80
Shower Floor = Crossville 3" AV92 Desert Stone

A grand day out

On Sunday we headed off to San Francisco's Golden Gate Park to watch some cyclocross racing. It was 75 degrees and clear blue skies, even up in the city. Cyclocross is a lot of fun to watch; it is a small loop course (about 8 mins a lap), narrow so you get to see the riders up close and intense. The spectators are a little off-beat too... on one of the hardest climbs there were are large group of beer drinking spectators, clad in orange jump suits, cheering (those who made it up) and jeering (those who didn't) and offering money for any rider who would pick it up!

Baby Sebastian's first International trip

Carol brought Sebastian to see mom and dad in Los Angeles last weekend. Wanting to see the new baby, I took Liam down as well for a visit. After spending a day with Sebastian, Liam said "He is a kind of cute.". Indeed, Sebastian is a very good baby and doesn't fuss very much. He actually reminds me of Liam when Liam was a baby.

Remodel: Fireplace in place

The new fireplace downstairs is now done, the tiles are chosen by Kristin the architect/designer. We really appreciate her involvement in the end game, probably more so at the beginning. I was having a lot of problems with colors and she helped a lot with the choices as well.

The end is near, the walls are primed and they're going to paint the interior pretty soon. I can't wait.

Not just an empty shell

Things have moved on to the next phase at the house. The plywood and paper that has been protecting our existing floors and the kitchen have been removed, most of the doors are hung, most of the new floors have been laid, there is a layer of primer (paint) on the walls, the bathroom cabinet is in and some of the trim (skirting board) has been installed. For me, seeing these changes were the biggest step forward since the house was framed.

I think the next few weeks will be hard because there is going to be the feeling that we are so close...

Just so

Cynthia and Liam have gone off to L.A. for the weekend, so I get to tidy the kitchen up just how I like it.

Be careful out there

As a "nice" birthday surprise I ended up going into the dermatologist to have her look at a small patch of scaly skin on my forehead that had been there for a few months. It was nothing serious, but could become so if ignored, and was treated with a witch's brew of liquid nitrogen to "burn" it off.

For all those fair skinned Sherlock's living in sunny climes, lather on that factor 30!
